YouthBorders is the charity which supports youth organisations, groups and non-uniformed clubs across the Scottish Borders region. We offer, training, insurance, strategic representation and support for work with young people. Our over-arching aim is to create and support alternative environments where young people thrive in the Scottish Borders. In 2014, YouthBorders won the Innovative Practice –Team of the Year Award at the Scottish YouthLink Awards.

Edinburgh Youth

Edinburgh Youth Music Forum

The Edinburgh Youth Music Forum is for musicians who work with young people making music. Members include individuals, organisations and companies from a broad range of musical genres and areas of provision. The EYMF aims to bring together music makers and music educators in order to develop skills and share best practice in music provision and education for young people aged 0-25 who live in Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.

Sound Out

Sound Out

Sound Out are a not for profit organisation formed in 2009 by an eclectic group of musicians and music fans in the village of Stow in the Scottish Borders.

Sound Out Stage various events during the year but one of our core aims is to allow young or first time performers to get up and have a go. To help youngsters make their first steps in public performance Sound Out provide the venue, public liability insurance, all the equipment such as lighting rig, PA system and support from volunteers to facilitate the events. We also provide equipment for Community Groups and individuals to put on their own shows.

Sound Out is not just for musicians – we get people involved by providing opportunities and training support rolls. This has included stage design and operating the sound or lighting desks.

In 2012 Sound Out staged the inaugural “Stowed Out festival” following the huge success of this self funded event Sound Out were awarded £10.000 by Foundation Scotland from the EDF Longpark Community Fund to run Stowed Out 2013 a month long Music and Arts Festival. This festival just a stones throw from the east end of the M8 is set to become one of the highlights of the Scottish Festival calendar.

Sound Out use any profits to run future events and purchase more equipment.

LGBT Youth Scotland

LGBT Youth Scotland is the largest youth and community-based organisation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Scotland. The charity’s mission is to:

“Empower lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people and the wider LGBT community so that they are embraced as full members of the Scottish family at home, school and in every community.”

Values and Principles

The work of LGBT Youth Scotland is delivered by a dedicated and hard working team of staff and volunteers, working across Scotland. The values and principles that underpin our work come from the field of community learning and development (CLD) and as such we use the CLD Competencies and the Code of Ethics in practice to guide and inform our work.
