In 2019/20 Sound Cycle are delighted to have received funding by YouthBorders and CashBack for Creativity. This enables us to continue our activities across the Borders, giving more young people more opportunities to get creative , enjoy and make great music , enabling wider participation and enjoyment of different musical activities across the community, whilst mentoring those who choose music based activity as their career path, helping them write, create and perform to the best of their abilities. Some of our past members are already enjoying exciting careers in the music business, and there are many more who are finding their feet as great writers and potential stars of the future. The funding will enable us to deliver a series of workshops, mentoring sessions, performances and recordings, all of which will be released digitally on our next album release, Sound Cycle 3 – Weft -New Music from The Borders.”
We’ve already run some amazing workshops and concerts, such as our series of seven Tinderbox Sessions at Mac Arts in Galashiels, which culminated in an incredible concert where our members performed and collaborated with the Orchestra to a packed venue, and we recently had another brilliant concert night at The Borders Book Festival .
We’ve helped co ordinate the #SongWave project during the Scottish Mental Arts Festival, where people from across the community came to sing a newly written song “Stay”, dedicated to the memory of the late Scott Hutchinson, lead singer of borders group Frightened Rabbit, to help publicise their new mental health charity #TinyChanges
Alongside our workshops and concerts programme, we are currently planning the recording of our third album project, Sound Cycle 3- Warp- New Music From The Borders, which will include a version of Stay, alongside more self penned music form some of our members.
Have a listen to some great performance from our previous two albums here:
