VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: TRUSTEE

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME MORE INVOLVED IN SOUNDCYCLE, AND HELP DELIVER MORE MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES TO YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS THE BORDERS?

Sound Cycle (Scottish Borders Youth Music Forum) are seeking founding trustees.

Since 2015, Sound Cycle has been delivered as a dynamic evolving project within the governance of YouthBorders, in autumn 2019 it was agreed that with Sound Cycle’s successful track record, there was significant potential in Sound Cycle to become a SCIO ( A Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) with its own governance arrangements, strategic vision and fundraising strategy. This transition would be fully supported by YouthBorders. The Chair and Chief Officer of YouthBorders invite applications from individuals who have the energy, enthusiasm and time commitment to become founding trustees of Sound Cycle. As a volunteer, trustees will have responsibility for developing a strategic vision for the new organisation and will fundraise to secure investment to deliver on this vision.


THE AIM of Sound Cycle is to address factors which hinder or inhibit young people’s involvement and enjoyment in musical activities and opportunities in the Borders; engaging them with groups, communities, professionals and schools; and developing skills, wellbeing, confidence and employability through youth music. We encourage anyone with an interest in youth music and community arts apply, however we would particularly welcome people who have knowledge, experience or skills in any of the following areas:

 charity governance

 finance and accounts

 fundraising and income generation

 events

 community engagement and participation

 health and wellbeing

 education

The most important quality we are seeking from founding trustees is the drive and commitment to form the new organisation and to further the aim of Sound Cycle over the next 1 to 2 years. In particular volunteer trustees would bring to Sound Cycle:

 Proven ability to work constructively with a team

 Excellent communications skills

 Excellent organisational skills

 Commitment to the aims and objectives of Sound Cycle and inclusivity

 Familiarity of issues affecting young people and the youth music sector

Previous board experience is desirable.
This is a voluntary position that is not remunerated. Expenses will be reimbursed.
